Detroit Lake Oregon
There used to be a town where Detroit Lake now sits. To this day there are tons of artifacts still under the water. When there is a draught and the water levels are low you can find them. The 200-person town was evacuated and flooded when the Detroit Dam was built in 1953.
Detroit Lake is a great place to Boat, Fish, Kayak, Picnic, Camp, etc… Never crowded and always relaxing and tranquil. It is about a 2 hour drive from Portland OR and mostly a beautiful drive. There is great hiking nearby and you are very close to the Breitenbush Hot Springs.
There is an island in the middle of Detroit Lake that you can get to by boat that has a really nice trail in it. Lost of amazing wildlife including eagles can be found in this area. In the town of Detroit there are a few places to eat. They are all AWFUL except for one. The only good food there is at a place called Connors BBQ. The food here is amazing and is the only place you should eat in town, I cannot stress enough how bad the food is at the other establishments.
Not a ton going on in Detroit Lake but if you are looking for something quiet and relaxing this is the place for you. Check out Detroit Dam as well the view is amazing.
